Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art multi-level electric bus depot at Hari Nagar, West Delhi. The Rs 420 crore project, being developed on the site of the old depot, will accommodate around 400 e-buses and is part of the ongoing Seva Pakhwada-2025 celebrations.

The CM said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a clean, affordable, and sustainable public transport system. “This project is not just about a depot, but a cornerstone for a green and clean Delhi,” Gupta said, adding that the government aims to double the number of DTC buses from 3,000 to 6,000 by next year to boost last-mile connectivity.

The depot will include a DTC office, a dormitory for employees, a 500-kW rooftop solar power plant, a 170 KLD sewage treatment plant, and a rainwater harvesting system, all spread over 26,257 square feet. Proper ventilation and eco-friendly measures will be ensured during construction.

The plan for the facility was first drawn up under the previous AAP government, but never materialised. The foundation-laying was part of the sixth day of Seva Pakhwada, which also saw the launch of the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar’ campaign at AIIMS Delhi.

Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh and Power Minister Ashish Sood were present at the event. The fortnight-long Seva Pakhwada, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, will continue until October 2.
