The water level of the Yamuna river in Delhi is continuously rising, which has deepened the threat of a flood. By Tuesday afternoon, the Yamuna's water had crossed the danger mark and was flowing at a level of 205.90 meters. Due to this swelling form of the river, floodwater has entered people's homes in several low-lying areas of the capital, including Yamuna Khadar.
Seeing the seriousness of the situation, people are being evacuated from the affected areas and are being shifted to relief camps set up in safe locations.
Meanwhile, Delhi's Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, took stock of the ground situation on Tuesday afternoon. She first visited the Yamuna bridge in Geeta Colony to inspect the preparations for tackling the flood. After this, she went to a relief camp and met with the people staying there to listen to their problems. During this time, the Chief Minister also spoke with District Magistrate Rishita Gupta and the concerned officials from the Irrigation Department. In the next phase of her tour, the Chief Minister reached Yamuna Bazar to inspect the situation there as well.
