The Delhi government has taken significant strides towards environmental sustainability by approving two major initiatives: a Rs 100 crore project to rejuvenate 160 lakes and the construction of the country's first eco-friendly e-waste park.

Rejuvenation Of 160 Lakes

The Delhi government has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the revival of 160 lakes located within the capital. Out of the 1,000 water bodies in Delhi, these 160 fall directly under the state government's jurisdiction.

Pollution Control And Water Security: The administration believes that reviving these water bodies is crucial for controlling pollution. Furthermore, the project will increase the city's water storage capacity—a vital step for a metropolis grappling with a water crisis.

Collaboration: The scheme will be implemented in coordination with the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Delhi Parks Authority (DPA). Previously, the DPCC had provided ₹19 crore in financial assistance for this cause.

Impact: Beyond serving as water sources, these restored lakes are expected to be instrumental in improving the city's overall health and environmental condition, offering a sustainable solution to environmental distress.

India’s First E-Waste Park In Holambi Kalan

In a landmark decision, the Delhi Cabinet has also approved the construction of the country's first modern e-waste park.

Location And Scale: The park will be developed on an 11.5-acre plot in Holambi Kalan.

Eco-Friendly Design: Based on the principles of "zero waste and zero pollution," the facility ensures minimal environmental impact. It is designed to protect both air and water quality.

Operations: The park will focus on the effective recycling of electronic waste. Additionally, the facility will feature a water recycling system, ensuring that water used on-site is treated and prepared for reuse.

Status: Although the project had been stalled for a long time, it has now received the green light. Tenders are expected to be issued soon.

A Vision For A Cleaner Delhi

Both initiatives highlight the government's commitment to making Delhi a smart, clean, and environmentally responsible city. While the lake rejuvenation project addresses water scarcity and air quality, the e-waste park aims to create a model for resource conservation and effective waste disposal.
