Some people attend weddings uninvited, making it essential to remain vigilant against such gatecrashers. A case highlighting this danger has emerged from Basavanagudi in Bengaluru, where a woman used to attend weddings posing as a relative, only to steal lakhs of rupees.
The Suspect
The woman has been identified as 46-year-old Revathi, a resident of Udayanagar in KR Puram, Bengaluru. Revathi was formerly a guest lecturer, but she has since carried out several such crimes. Surprisingly, she quit her job as a lecturer a few years ago specifically to become a thief.
Police Action And Recovery
The police have taken the woman into custody for 12 days. During the seizure, officers recovered 262 grams of gold and Rs 36 lakh in cash from her possession.
How The Truth Came To Light
The investigation began after a resident of Manjunatha Nagar filed a theft complaint. The incident occurred on November 23, when the complainant and her mother attended a wedding in Basavanagudi. They had left a bag containing a 32-gram gold chain and an imitation necklace in a room. The gold chain was valued at approximately Rs 3 lakh. However, a short while later, they discovered that both the gold chain and the imitation jewelry were missing from the room.
The Arrest
Following an investigation, Revathi was detained from her home on December 1. During police interrogation, she confessed to the crime. She also admitted to committing similar thefts in two other areas within the Basavanagudi jurisdiction.
