The Delhi government is considering the construction of foot overbridges (FOBs) at around 60 locations across the capital to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce traffic congestion. Proposals for these FOBs have been submitted by MLAs from various constituencies following a call by Public Works Minister Pravesh Verma to suggest measures to address persistent traffic jams.

According to officials, the proposals have been forwarded to the chief engineers concerned to carry out feasibility studies at the identified sites. Once these studies are completed, joint inspections will be conducted by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the traffic police.

The recommendations will then be placed before the department’s Subway Committee for approval, after which the tendering process will begin.

Key locations identified for proposed foot overbridges include Azadpur Mandi Gate No. 5, near Crown Plaza on Ghazipur Road, Andheria Mor, Chhatarpur Metro Station near Harcharan Bagh, TB Hospital Crossing, opposite Qutub Minar Gate, opposite JNU Gate, Maujpur Chowk, opposite GTB Enclave in Nand Nagri, Rohini Sector-24, and near Nand Nagri Depot, among others.

Officials said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to streamline traffic and develop a congestion-free road network in Delhi. In April this year, Minister Verma constituted a committee of traffic experts to work on long-term and sustainable solutions for smoother traffic management across the city.
