The Directorate of Education has launched a comprehensive winter survey across the national capital to identify out-of-school children and connect them to the formal education system. The campaign aims to ensure universal education and simplify the admission process for children who have dropped out or never attended school.
Survey Details And Timeline
Duration: The survey will run until January 15.
Operation: A total of 234 teams have been deployed to conduct door-to-door visits daily from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm across all districts, including East, South, West, North and Central Delhi.
Target Demographics: Children will be identified in four age groups: up to 5 years, 6–10 years, 11–14 years, and 15–19 years.
Focus On Vulnerable Areas
Special attention is being given to children who have either never attended school, have dropped out, or require special educational support.
Hotspots: The survey is targeting unauthorized colonies, slum settlements, industrial areas, and construction sites.
Documentation Issues: Officials noted that many children in these areas are unable to attend school due to a lack of identity proofs and documents.
Trust Building: Survey teams have been issued official identity cards to help them be easily recognized and build trust within the community.
Action Plan: Enrolment by January 31 Information regarding the identified children will be sent to the relevant authorities under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
Enrolment: Children found to be out of school, including those with special needs, will be enrolled in schools by January 31.
Reporting: A detailed report of the survey will be submitted by February 7.
Objective: Curbing Child Labours And Dropouts
According to Education Department officials, the primary objective is to ensure that no child is deprived of an education. The initiative seeks to not only identify these children but also provide educational support tailored to their needs to integrate them into mainstream education. This timely identification is expected to help curb problems such as child labour and school dropouts.
