Delhi Air Pollution: The national capital recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 329, placing it in the very poor category at 7 am on Wednesday, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Morning visuals showed a thick blanket of toxic smog enveloping roads, buildings and major traffic corridors across the city. While stronger winds and thinning fog led to a slight improvement in pollution levels, the air remained unsafe, particularly for children, the elderly and those with respiratory ailments.
Amid the persistent air quality crisis, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has enforced all measures under Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the Delhi-NCR region.
Delhi-NCR AQI
Air quality across several cities in the National Capital Region remained poor to severe, with Faridabad recording an AQI of 221, Gurugram 294, Ghaziabad 258, Greater Noida 272 and Muzaffarnagar 259, all falling in the poor category. Noida registered a very poor AQI of 329, while NH-24 in Ghazipur reported with an AQI of 341, placing it in the very poor category.

The Delhi government has announced tougher measures to curb worsening air pollution, including a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel to vehicles lacking a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Only BS-VI compliant vehicles will be allowed to operate in the city, while older vehicles will face restrictions. Despite a marginal improvement, Delhi’s Air Quality Index stood at 377 on Tuesday, down from 498 a day earlier, but remained firmly in the hazardous range.
Delhi Weather
The IMD has forecast clear skies with light to shallow fog during the morning hours. Daytime temperatures are expected to hover around 23 degrees Celsius, while nights are likely to remain cold, with minimum temperatures between 9 and 10 degrees Celsius.
