Weather Report Today: A severe cold wave and dense fog continue to blanket northern India, significantly impacting daily life and travel. Due to adverse weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for cold waves and dense fog in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, southern Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana.

The upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are currently experiencing intense cold, with temperatures dipping sharply to between 0 to 5 degrees Celsius. As per the latest IMD bulletin, a change in weather is expected with the arrival of a new western disturbance, which is likely to bring light snowfall or rain between December 17 and 18.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has also issued rain warnings for southern states, particularly Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

North India Weather Update

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and southern Uttar Pradesh due to severe cold wave conditions. Dense fog is likely to persist in several parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.

Dense fog and a cold wave have disrupted normal life and travel across the region. The weather department has advised all travellers to stay vigilant due to the extreme low visibility.

Delhi And Uttar Pradesh Weather Forecast

The weather department has issued no weather warnings for the national capital, forecasting mainly clear skies and light fog during the morning hours. Residents are expected to experience shallow fog in the morning, with daytime temperatures likely to be around 23 degrees Celsius, and nights are expected to remain cold at 9-10 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for persistent cold wave conditions in southern Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and follow official weather updates to avoid inconvenience.

Snowfall In Jammu And Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh

Intense cold wave continues to grip Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, with temperatures plunging to 0-5 degrees Celsius in many high-altitude locations. On December 17, the weather is likely to remain dry, accompanied by fog in many parts of the region.

Light snowfall or rain is anticipated in the upper areas of Himachal Pradesh from December 17-18, while in Jammu and Kashmir from December 20-21 due to the arrival of a western disturbance.

South India Weather Update

The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in several districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kanyakumari, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Ramanathapuram, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. The IMD has forecast that these conditions will persist in parts of Tamil Nadu until December 22.
