The Directorate of Education has flagged serious infrastructure issues in government schools across Delhi, highlighting that inadequate electricity and water supply are endangering the quality of education.
A recent report shows that out of 799 schools, 48 have no water supply at all, while 59 face irregular water availability. Twenty-two schools rely entirely on tankers, and 10 schools remain without water altogether. While some of these schools are under construction, others have depended on tankers or nearby schools for years without permanent solutions.

Electricity supply is also a major concern. Six schools lack power entirely, and 17 experience frequent outages that disrupt studies. Many schools do not have generators or permanent backup systems, and in some cases, electricity meters are shared, creating issues with billing and monitoring.
In response, the Education Department has directed the Deputy Director of Education to investigate and implement corrective measures immediately. The Directorate has instructed the Delhi Jal Board to ensure tanker supply for dependent schools and mandated that schools without a connection apply for a new water supply line.

Additionally, it has recommended installing solar panels in schools to make them self-reliant and prevent similar crises in the future.
