Traffic congestion has severely affected commuters on the Outer Ring Road near Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro Station, Delhi, for the past one and a half months, as prolonged repair work continues on the stretch following the appearance of major cracks in the road.

The damaged portion near the Haiderpur Badli Mor railway overbridge, reportedly caused by soil erosion, is being repaired by the Public Works Department (PWD). However, the ongoing work has led to continuous traffic jams throughout the day, with vehicle queues stretching 1.5 to 2 kilometres during peak hours.

Commuters say a journey that once took five to seven minutes is now taking 30 to 40 minutes, and during morning and evening rush hours, the waiting time often extends to one to two hours.

The Outer Ring Road is one of Delhi’s busiest arterial routes, used daily by hundreds of thousands of commuters. As a result, travellers moving between Mukarba Chowk, Rohini, Madhuban Chowk, and the bypass are facing serious delays.

Several commuters expressed frustration over the situation. Pradeep, who travels daily from Najafgarh to Dilshad Garden, said he had been stuck in traffic for nearly 45 minutes. Rohit, commuting from Badli to Mukundpur, reported being stranded for 40 minutes, with traffic backed up for nearly 1.5 kilometres. Radhe Shyam, travelling from Kundli to Rohini Sector-15, said such jams have become routine since the road developed cracks. Ranjit, an auto driver heading from Narela to Shakurpur, stated it took him almost 50 minutes to clear a one-kilometre-long jam caused by the poor condition of the road.

Authorities have advised commuters heading towards Mukarba Chowk or the bypass via the Outer Ring Road to use alternative routes until repair work is completed.
