Delhi Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi for Thursday, January 8, warning of widespread morning fog, with dense conditions in some areas as icy winds from the Himalayan region sweep into the capital. Temperatures in Delhi are expected to stay low, with daytime readings between 15 and 17 Degree Celsius and night temperatures hovering from 7 to 9 Degree Celsius. Due to the harsh winter conditions, authorities have announced the closure of all schools in Delhi until January 15.

Delhi-NCR Weather 

The cold spell continues to intensify. The IMD expects Delhi’s minimum temperature to dip further to around 6 Degree Celsius. Noida is likely to witness thick fog during the early hours, while temperatures there may remain around 15 Degree Celsius during the day and 8 Degree Celsius at night. Gurugram, meanwhile, is forecast to have mostly clear skies, with the mercury expected to stay near 14 Degree Celsius during the day and drop to about 9 Degree Celsius overnight. The region continues to experience severe cold wave conditions, driven by dense fog and biting northwesterly winds, causing a sharp fall in temperatures.

Delhi Weather Forecast 

1. The Met Department has predicted moderate to dense fog in Delhi and upper-level fog across the Indo-Gangetic Plain on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

2. Cold conditions are expected to intensify over northern India and continue till January 15.

3. A yellow alert has been issued for today, with moderate fog at many places and dense fog at isolated locations during morning hours.

4. From today till January 13, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with shallow to moderate fog.

5. Over the next two days, Delhi is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with shallow to moderate morning fog.

6. The maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to range between 16 and 18 Degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature is expected to remain between 6 and 8 Degree Celsius.

Temperatures in adjoining Punjab and Haryana also dipped below 5 degree celsius, intensifying the cold conditions. Meanwhile, Kashmir experienced freezing nights across most areas, with the coldest reading coming from the tourist hub of Sonamarg, where the mercury plunged to -10.1 degree celsius.
