Delhi Weather: As North India endures an intense cold wave, dense fog, and snowfall in several states, Delhi NCR is also experiencing chilly conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rainfall in many parts of Delhi and surrounding NCR cities over the coming days.
The capital is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall on January 22-23, months after the heavy rainfall that occurred in the odd months of September and October last year.
In a statement on X, the IMD mentioned, “Due to an active Western disturbance, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are likely at most locations, with isolated heavy falls over the Western Himalayan region. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected at a few places on the plains of northwest India on 22nd and 23rd January 2026. Hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely at isolated locations during the same period.”
With the influence of two Western disturbances, rain and snowfall are expected in the Western Himalayas, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next five days.
In addition, there is a chance of rain in Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi NCR, and North Rajasthan on January 22-23. Dense to very dense fog will also affect Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, continuing for the next two to three days.

According to the IMD, cold wave conditions are not anticipated to return in Delhi NCR or North-West India.
Dense fog will persist in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan over the next two to three days, with visibility dropping to between 50 and 200 metres during the early morning hours. A yellow alert has been issued for these regions.

The IMD has also predicted that dense fog will continue during the morning and night hours in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on January 22.
