Gurugram News: As night falls over Gurugram’s busy roads, the city police have announced tough action against commuters driving on the wrong side, calling it a serious threat to public safety. The move is part of a renewed enforcement drive aimed at reducing fatal traffic violations.
Stricter Action To Improve Road Safety
The Gurugram Police have said commuters caught driving against traffic flow will now face heavier fines, arrests and even FIRs. Officials said wrong-side driving and sudden lane changes are among the most dangerous violations, often leading to severe accidents.

Special Drive Relaunched
Traffic officials confirmed that a special enforcement campaign, first introduced in February last year, has now been intensified. The focus is on identifying repeat offenders and ensuring stricter compliance with traffic rules across key roads and junctions.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan said driving in the wrong direction puts not only the driver at risk but also endangers pedestrians and other motorists. He added that registering FIRs has become necessary due to the rising number of violations.
Awareness Campaigns Alongside Enforcement
Along with penalties, the police are continuing road safety awareness programmes. These include public announcements, on-ground counselling and campaigns to remind commuters of the risks linked to reckless driving.
Rising Number Of Violations
Police data shows a worrying trend. In 2025, more than 2.03 lakh drivers were fined for wrong-side driving in Gurugram. This marks a sharp rise from 1.82 lakh challans issued in 2024, highlighting the need for stronger enforcement.
Officials have urged commuters to follow traffic rules strictly, warning that violations will no longer be treated leniently.
