Alumni of the 2000 batch of IIT Delhi have donated over Rs 70 crore to the institute on their silver jubilee reunion.

Underscoring the vital role of a strong alumni network as the backbone of an educational institution, the Class of 2000 of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has pledged a donation of over Rs 70 crore.

This contribution, announced during the batch’s Silver Jubilee Reunion, is being cited as the largest ever made by a single graduating batch in the institute's history.

The Event

The announcement was made during a ceremony held on the IIT Delhi campus, attended by a large number of alumni from both India and abroad. Commemorating the occasion, the former students presented a dummy bank cheque to the administration, symbolising their commitment to the institute's future.

Utilisation Of Funds

According to the institute, the majority of the funds will be directed toward IIT Delhi's General Endowment Fund. This strategic allocation aims to provide long-term financial stability and will be instrumental in preparing the institute for global competition. The funds will focus on:

  • Strengthening academic programs.
  • Promoting advanced research and innovation.
  • Providing scholarships for needy students.
  • Enhancing faculty excellence.

Alumni Sentiment

Speaking on behalf of the batch, fundraising lead Rohit Dubey stated that IIT Delhi taught them to keep pace with a changing world. He emphasized that the Class of 2000 wants this contribution to provide lasting opportunities and resources for future generations of students.

Institute’s Response

The IIT Delhi administration welcomed the initiative, describing it as a symbol of the alumni's deep trust and sense of responsibility toward their alma mater.
