On Dussehra today, the symbolic burning of Ravana's effigy will be accompanied by spectacular displays of light and sound rather than smoke and loud crackers at several locations across the city. Ramlila committees and resident associations, particularly in South Delhi, have adopted this innovative approach to ensure the celebration of good over evil does not contribute to air pollution.
Organisers state that these eco-friendly events will not only uphold the festival's tradition but also send a powerful message of environmental conservation.
Here’s a look at how different localities are celebrating a green Dussehra:
A 90-Foot Ravana In Chirag Delhi
At the Shri Dharmik Ramlila in Chirag Delhi, a massive 90-foot effigy of Ravana, an 85-foot effigy of Kumbhakarna, and an 80-foot effigy of Meghanada have been prepared. The committee's chief organizer, Rakesh Gulia, stated that no polluting firecrackers will be used. "Sound and light effects will be used for the fireworks display," he confirmed.
Greater Kailash Goes Completely Green
Satish Upadhyay, an MLA and the chairman of the Shriram Dharmik Ramlila Samiti in Greater Kailash, announced that their Dussehra celebrations will be completely eco-friendly. Effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghanada, each standing at 55 feet, have been set up. Instead of traditional firecrackers, a sound system will be used to give the audience the full audio-visual experience of fireworks.

East Of Kailash Opts For Paper And Sound
In C-Block of East of Kailash, an eco-friendly Dussehra is also being celebrated. Pawan Sharma of the Federation of Senior Citizens mentioned that their effigy is made entirely of paper. "No firecrackers will be used; the fireworks display will be created solely with the help of sound," Sharma said.
