CUET 2025 Revised Guidelines: The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET UG) is set for a major revamp in 2025, with a shift to a fully computer-based test (CBT) mode and greater flexibility for students in choosing subjects, according to University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar.
Transition To Computer-Based Test (CBT) Mode
From 2025, CUET-UG will only be conducted in CBT mode, replacing the hybrid format used previously. Kumar highlighted that this move ensures greater reliability and security in the examination process.
Flexibility In Subject Selection
Students appearing for CUET UG will now have the freedom to choose subjects beyond their Class 12 discipline. This change aims to break rigid disciplinary boundaries and offer more academic flexibility in higher education.
Reduction In Papers And Language Options
- The number of test papers has been reduced from 63 to 37.
- Admissions for the dropped subjects will be based on the General Aptitude Test (GAT).
- Language-specific tests have been streamlined, with 13 languages offered instead of 33. These include Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Changes In Domain-Specific Subjects
The domain-specific subjects have been reduced from 29 to 23. Papers for Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, and Engineering Graphics have been dropped.
Revised Exam Format And Duration
- Students can now appear for a maximum of five subjects, reduced from six.
- The duration of each exam paper has been standardised at 60 minutes.
- Optional questions have been removed, making all questions compulsory.
Changes In CUET PG
The duration of the CUET PG exam has been shortened from 105 minutes to 90 minutes.
Past Challenges And Ongoing Improvements
The first edition of CUET UG in 2022 faced technical glitches and issues with score normalisation due to multiple shifts. In 2024, the hybrid mode of testing led to logistical problems, including last-minute cancellations in Delhi.
"Every year, learning from the past experience we are trying to improve the CUET-UG to make the exam more conducive for the students," Kumar said, as reported by news agency PTI.
Stakeholder Feedback And Notification
The approved changes will soon be made public for feedback from stakeholders. A final notification will be issued after considering the suggestions received.
