IIT Delhi 57th Convocation 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is celebrating its 57th convocation ceremony today, August 8, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event witnessed over 3,000 students, including 587 Ph.D. scholars. Joining the ceremony as the guest of honour was Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi. A major highlight of the ceremony was the inauguration of the “Param Pragya” by the Prime Minister at the Sonipat campus of IIT Delhi. It is an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility aimed at facilitating researchers, faculty members, and students in solving their complex scientific and engineering problems.
What Is “Param Pragya”?
“Param Pragya” is an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility launched today at the Sonipat Campus of IIT Delhi. The facility is designed to upskill research capabilities in AT, data science, and advanced computing, and interdisciplinary scientific and engineering fields. Through this, researchers and students will benefit and get assistance in solving complex scientific workloads and emerging technologies. Considering the AI evolution, the facility will foster high-tech innovation within the academic ecosystem.
Medals Distributed To Meritorious Students
Participating in the ceremony, PM Modi conferred prestigious awards to meritorious students. These include the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and Perfect Ten Gold Medals. This highlighted the exceptional academic performance of students from various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. He also addressed over 3,000 graduate students, including 587 PhD scholars, and presented them with their degrees.
IIT Delhi Rebuild By 2035
Addressing a press conference, IIT-Delhi director Rangan Banerjee said the university will be rebuilt by 2035, and a plan will be shared soon. Furthermore, the officials shared that of the students graduating on Saturday, approximately 27% are women. Meanwhile, IIT Delhi has signed an MOU with 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) to upgrade academic exchange, joint research, shared access to research infrastructure, and collaborative supervision of projects.
