Maharashtra School Holiday: The Maharashtra state government has announced a three-day mourning period following the tragic demise of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar. The Deputy CM passed away in a tragic plane crash today, January 28, 2026, near Baramati. Following this, the state government has announced the mourning period.
All government, government-aided, private schools, colleges, and other institutions in the state will remain closed until January 30, 2026. According to the official notification issued by the state, as a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, state mourning shall be observed throughout the state of Maharashtra for three days.
The official notice stated that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has canceled all his programs, and both Asun Teh and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde are leaving for Baramati soon. A government lockdown has been declared in the state today, and three days (till January 30, 2026) of mourning have been declared.
