Kannada Rajyotsava 2026 on November 1: Karnataka’s School Education and Literacy Department has directed schools across the state to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava on November 1, even though the date falls on a Sunday this year. The order covers government, government-aided and unaided private primary and high schools, including those in Bengaluru.
Celebrations Cannot Be Postponed
The department has made it clear that schools should not shift the programme to another day because of the weekly holiday. State and national festivals, it said, must be observed on their designated dates. Headmasters and school authorities have been asked to make the necessary arrangements.
Why November 1?
Kannada Rajyotsava is the celebration of the creation of the state of Karnataka, which took place on November 1, 1956, through the union of Kannada-speaking areas into the then Mysore State. The state was named Karnataka in 1973. It is a celebration of the language, culture and heritage of the state, and is celebrated both in governmental institutions and educational institutions.
What Will Happen in Schools?
Usually in schools, there is celebration in the form of cultural programmes, Kannada songs, speeches and activities that relate to the state’s heritage. Such activities are a way for students to get acquainted with the traditions of Karnataka and to participate in the activities aimed at the promotion of Kannada literature and folklore.
What Schools Need to Do?
With the festival falling on a Sunday, schools will need to coordinate with their staff to ensure the celebrations take place on November 1 itself. The aim is to give students a meaningful connection with the Kannada language and the state’s cultural identity.
