NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27: Under the Ministry of Education, the Department of School Education and Literacy has opened the official portal for fresh and renewal applications for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme. Students abiding by the prescribed eligibility criteria can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) until August 31. The scholarships will help economically weaker students to continue their education after Class 8. All candidates should apply before the deadline to avail the benefits of the scheme.

How To Fill NMMSS Application Form 2026?

Using the following steps, candidates can complete their NMMSS registration 2026 via the official portal.

Step 1: Go to the NSP official website at scholarships.gov.in.

Step 2: Fresh invitees must complete their one-time registration process using basic details.

Step 3: You will receive your login credentials at your email address.

Step 4: Using the registered credentials, log in and select the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme.

Step 5: Fill in required details. 

Step 6: Upload mandatory documents in the prescribed format.

Step 7: Verify all details carefully and submit the form.

NMMSS Eligibility Criteria

NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27 applies to students of Class 9 from all government, government-aided, and local body schools. Students of Classes 10 and 12 can also apply for renewal, provided they meet the renewal eligibility requirements. Students can apply for one merit-based scholarship scheme along with one or more welfare-based scholarship schemes. 

NMMSS Scholarship Benefits

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme is a centrally sponsored program to provide educational assistance to meritorious students from the economically weaker sections. Aiming to encourage students to continue their studies after Class 8, the scheme tends to reduce the dropout rate. Eligible students will get one lakh fresh scholarships under the scheme. Students enrolled in state government, government-aided, and local body schools must enroll before the deadline to avail the benefits.

NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27: Verification Schedule Announced

The applications will be verified at two stages. First, the Institute Nodal Officers (INOs) will complete Level-1 (L1) verification by September 15, 2026. By September 30, the District Nodal Officers (DNOs) will carry out Level-2 (L2) verification. The ministry has instructed the officials to complete the verification process before the deadline to initiate the refund process on time.
