The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has introduced a preferred center option for PwBD candidates for all its examinations. The UPSC guarantees preferred examination centers for disabled candidates. UPSC has made a significant change for candidates with benchmark disabilities. Under a new policy, such candidates will now be guaranteed the examination center of their choice when filling out the application form.
PwBD candidates to get preferred exam centers despite capacity limitations:
The UPSC has announced that candidates with benchmark disabilities will now be able to appear for all competitive examinations at their preferred examination center, as indicated in their application. Even if a center's capacity is full for general candidates, disabled candidates will still be able to choose that center. The UPSC will provide additional seats as needed to ensure that the preferences of disabled candidates are respected.
UPSC Chairman emphasizes inclusivity and convenience:
UPSC Chairman Dr. Ajay Kumar said, "After analysing the examination center data for the past five years, we observed that Delhi, Cuttack, Patna, Lucknow, and a few other centers reach their capacity limits very quickly due to the large number of applicants. This creates challenges for PwBD candidates, who then have to choose centers that may not be convenient for them.
I am happy that with this decision, every PwBD candidate will now be guaranteed their preferred center, ensuring maximum convenience and ease while appearing for UPSC examinations."
This reform will make the examination process easier and more convenient for disabled candidates. It will reduce long-distance travel, lower expenses, and minimise physical stress. This step reinforces UPSC's commitment to equal opportunities and inclusive governance and promotes the rights and dignity of candidates with special needs.
