Jammu and Kashmir schools and colleges will be closed tomorrow, August 28, due to heavy rains.

The recent heavy rainfall in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu has led to flooding, waterlogging and landslides in the Kashmir Valley and the state of Uttarakhand. This has caused massive damage to roads and other land transport modes, and worse, has led to road washouts in some cases. In view of the damage to roads, the state and local governments have directed schools to remain closed till August 28, 2025 to ensure the safety of school students.

The Odisha government on Tuesday announced an additional holiday for the Nuakhai festival, which is celebrated in a big way in the western part of the state.

According to separate orders, government offices and schools will remain shut on August 29 in addition to August 28, the day of the festival.
