The Telangana government has announced a holiday on January 30 in view of the Medaram Jatara festival. District Collector officials have issued orders declaring the holiday for the Mulugu district. The holiday will apply to all government offices and all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, in the district. Officials said the decision was taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the Medaram Jatara, which attracts a large number of devotees every year.

To make up for the holiday, February 14 (second Saturday) will be observed as a working day, authorities clarified. Meanwhile, it may be noted that student organisations have been demanding that the state government declare a statewide holiday during the Medaram Jatara.

However, as of now, the holiday announcement is limited to the Mulugu district only. The Medaram Jatara is one of the largest tribal festivals in Asia and is held once every two years in Telangana.
