Tomorrow School Holiday (Friday) Highlights: Check States And City-Wise Schools Closure Updates Amid Rising Pollution And Cold Wave Alert

In response to the intensifying cold wave, the Patna District Administration has announced a significant decision regarding school operations to ensure the safety of students.

Here is a breakdown of the official order:

Primary and Middle Schools (Up to Class 8): All government and private schools, including pre-schools and coaching centers, will remain completely closed until January 11, 2026.

Secondary Schools (Class 9 and Above):  Classes for students in Grade 9 and higher are permitted to continue, but only within restricted/limited hours to avoid the peak cold of the early morning and late evening.

Board Exam Preparations:  The administration has clarified that activities related to Board Exams (such as practicals or remedial sessions) can proceed with necessary precautions and support.

Due to the intense cold wave, schools up to class 8 in Bulandshahr will remain closed until January 10th. The decision was taken by the District Magistrate, keeping in mind the health of the children.

 Due to the increasing cold and dense fog in the state, schools in Punjab will remain closed till January 13, 2026. 

Lucknow District Magistrate has announced holidays from January 6 to January 8 for Classes 1 to 8. Classes 9 to 12 will operate from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with special arrangements made for students preparing for board examinations.

Agra DM has also ordered the closure of schools up to Class 12 of all boards, including UP Board and CBSE, till January 8. This decision has been taken in view of severe cold

Amid the severe cold weather conditions, the Punjab government has once again extended the school holidays until January 13, 2026.

Schools in Ghaziabad district in Uttar Pradesh have been ordered to remain closed until January 10, 2026 (Up to Class 8).

In view of the steadily increasing cold and cold wave in the Kotputli-Behror district, District Collector Priyanka Goswami has issued a major order. According to the order, a holiday has been declared from January 7th to January 10th for students studying in nursery through grade 8 in all government and non-government schools in the district. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the health and safety of the children. However, teachers and staff will be present at their scheduled times.

Lucknow Schools closed due to cold weather:

-All schools up to class eight will remain closed

-All schools will remain closed until January 10th

-Schools will remain closed in Ghaziabad and Noida

Jaipur schools have announced holidays for Class 1-5 until January 10, while Classes 6-8 will resume on January 8.

Due to the severe cold and cold wave in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh, all schools from classes 1 to 12 have been closed until January 10th, as per the orders of District Magistrate Gyanendra Singh.

Due to the increasing cold and fog in the state, schools in Punjab will remain closed till January 13. This will apply to all government, aided, recognized and private schools of the state.

Due to the severe cold wave, all schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar up to Class 8 will remain closed until January 10th. Authorities issued this directive to ensure student safety and health.

In view of the continuously increasing cold and cold wave in Korea district, the district administration has taken a major decision keeping in mind the health of the students. With the approval of the Collector, the District Education Officer has issued an order declaring a holiday for students up to class 5th in all schools of the district until January 10, 2026.

Schools in UP's Ghaziabad have been ordered to remain closed until January 10, 2026 (Up to Class 8).

Due to the extreme cold in the Bijnor district, students from pre-primary to class 8 will have holidays on January 7th and 8th. District Basic Education Officer Sachin Kasana said that on the instructions of the District Magistrate, holidays have been declared for all schools from pre-primary to class 8, regardless of the board they are affiliated with.

Telangana schools will observe Pongal holidays from January 10 to January 16, 2026. All institutions will officially reopen on January 17.

In that regard, in view of this year's Hettai Amman festival, a local holiday has been declared for the Nilgiris district on January 7 (tomorrow). In place of this, the Nilgiris District Collector has announced that January 24 (Saturday) will be a working day.

CM Yogi Adityanath had ordered all schools and colleges up to the intermediate level across the state to remain closed until January 5th. Orders have been issued to keep classes one through eight at schools closed until January 15th.

Gorakhpur District Magistrate Deepak Meena has ordered that schools up to class 8 will remain closed on January 6th and 7th, 2026, due to severe cold and a cold wave in the district. Instructions regarding school closures have also been issued in Lucknow due to the cold weather.

In Punjab, winter vacation has been announced for schools until January 8th. Considering the increasing cold, the state’s Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, has decided to extend the holidays until January 8th.

Sawai Madhopur: In view of the impact of cold wave and extreme cold in the district, as per the instructions of District Collector Kana Ram, in the interest of the health and safety of the students, a holiday has been declared for all students studying in classes 1 to 8 from January 7 to January 10, 2026. This order will be applicable to all government and non-government schools in the district.

District Collector Priyanka Pankajam has announced that a one-day local holiday will be declared in Thanjavur district tomorrow (January 7) on the occasion of the Thyagarajar Aradhana festival being held at Thiruvaiyar in Thanjavur district. 

The Punjab government has extended winter holidays for all government and private schools in the state till Wednesday, January 7. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains confirmed the decision, citing a sharp dip in temperatures across the region.

In view of the extreme cold and cold wave prevailing in the Surguja district, the district administration. A big relief has been given to the students of primary classes. According to the order issued by the District Education Officer Ambikapur, holiday has been declared till 10 January 2026 for the students of classes 1st to 5th in all the government, non-government, aided and other schools of the district. 

In Jaipur, schools have announced staggered holidays for different age groups:

-Up to Class 5: Until 10 January 2026

-Classes 6 to 8: Until 8 January 2026

Note: The Jaipur district administration clarified that these holidays are only for students. Teaching and non-teaching staff are required to report to schools.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced school holiday in the state between January 6 and 10, 2026. The state has been experiencing a cold wave for over a week, with minimum temperatures dropping by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius from the normal one, said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Agartala centre

Due to a severe cold wave, schools in Jharkhand will remain closed till January 8, 2026. However, pre-board exams may continue as per routine.

The order is applicable to all classes from nursery to class 12. Earlier the schools announced closure till January 6, 2026.

In Delhi, the Directorate of Education has announced that winter vacations for the academic year 2025–26 will run from 1 to 15 January 2026, as previously outlined in a notice issued in November 2025.

Similarly, in Haryana, all government and private schools are observing winter holidays from 1 to 15 January 2026, with classes resuming on 16 January 2026. Authorities have urged families to adhere to safety.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures in the state have fallen 4–6°C below normal, with heavy fog expected during the night and early morning hours.

In Uttar Pradesh, schools from nursery to class 8 will remain closed until January 15th. Schools for classes 9 to 12 will remain closed until January 8th.

With the start of the new year, a period of bone-chilling cold has begun in Rajasthan. Due to dense fog and a cold wave, schools up to grade 8 have been declared closed in 20 districts of the state starting today. The steadily dropping temperatures and inclement weather have severely impacted normal life.

According to the order issued by Sekhawati District Collector Abhishek Surana:

-Holidays will be observed for students from pre-primary to class 5th until January 10, 2026.

-Holidays have been declared for students of classes 6th to 8th until January 7, 2026.

In Delhi, government and private schools are already observing winter vacations until January 15, 2026. 

Rajasthan schools across multiple districts have announced winter vacations and revised timings for different classes due to the ongoing cold wave.

Following an IMD special bulletin warning of severe cold wave conditions, Bokaro has been placed under the Yellow Zone. District Magistrate Ajay Nath Jha has ordered the closure of all government, private, and non-government schools from KG to Class 12 from January 6 to January 8. All school authorities must strictly follow this directive to ensure student safety during extreme weather.

Rajasthan Board has announced the extension of winter vacations from January 7 to January 10, 2026, keeping all government and private schools closed due to cold weather.

Due to a sharp 6–7°C temperature drop, district authorities in Guwahati and nearby areas have announced school holidays in Assam till January 6, 2026. The decision aims to protect students from extreme cold and prevent seasonal illnesses during the ongoing winter spell.

Due to severe cold, schools in Jaipur and fifteen districts are closed, while Kota anganwadi centres will remain shut until January 14 to ensure children’s safety.

The District Magistrate of Lucknow has ordered schools from pre-primary to Class 8 closed till January 8, while Classes 9 to 12 will operate from 10 AM to 3 PM.

The Sikar District Collector ordered a holiday due to cold, allowing Classes 9 to 12 students to attend school only from 11 am to 4 pm.

All government and private schools in Jaipur will remain closed till January 10 due to severe cold and cold wave conditions.

Due to severe cold and bad weather in areas like Ranchi and Jamshedpur, the Jharkhand government has announced winter holidays in all government and private schools from KG to Class 12 till January 6, 2026, following a Yellow Alert by IMD.

Schools may reopen on January 6 for teachers to complete administrative work, but regular classes will resume only after weather conditions improve and it is safe for students to return.

This UP Winter Vacation 2026 applies to all UP Board, CBSE, and ICSE schools in the state. Authorities have also warned that strict action will be taken against schools that fail to follow the official guidelines.

In view of the intense cold prevailing in the district, a holiday has been declared for students studying from Pre-Primary to Class 8 in all government and private schools operating in the district on January 6 and 7.

During this period, school staff will remain present at their respective institutions and continue to carry out official and departmental work as usual.

-Schools in Sikar and Jhalawar districts will be closed from January 6th to 10th for classes 1 to 8.

-Schools in Nagaur will be closed from January 6th to 8th for classes 1 to 5.

Due to the cold wave, schools in Jaipur district will also remain closed until January 10th.

Due to the severe cold in Agra, the school holidays for children up to grade 12 have been extended until January 8. Until now, schools were only closed until January 5, but now the winter vacation for children up to grade 12 has been extended until January 8.

Jharkhand was already observing a winter break. All schools were scheduled to reopen on January 5th. However, due to the deteriorating weather conditions, the state government declared a holiday on January 5th and 6th on Sunday itself. Now, under the latest order, these holidays have been extended until January 8th. This clearly indicates that the government is continuously monitoring the weather situation and may take further decisions if necessary.

The District Collector has ordered a holiday on January 7, 2026 for all government offices and educational institutions in Thanjavur on the occasion of the 179th anniversary of the Thiruvaiyaru Sri Thiagarajar Aradhana festival.

In view of the 'cold wave' alert issued by the Meteorological Department, district collectors in various districts of the state have issued orders to extend the winter holidays for the safety of school children. After Baran, schools in Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, and Bundi have also been closed.
