Paper Leak Hits Uttarakhand: Following the nationwide uproar over the NEET paper leak protests, a fresh case of question paper leak has surfaced at Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU), where papers reached students before the scheduled exams. After an investigation, the university cancelled exams for two subjects held under this arrangement.
Assistant Professor Ashish Kumar Gupta of Shivalik College of Engineering, Dehradun, who had prepared the question papers, has been barred from all exam-related duties for the next seven years for his role in the leak.

Case Linked To Even Semester Exams 2025-26
The matter pertains to the even semester examinations of the 2025-26 session. The university received a complaint regarding the question paper of the "Mechanical Learning for Internet of Things" subject.
Following the complaint, a high-level investigation committee was formed by the university, while Shivalik College of Engineering also conducted its own internal probe into the matter simultaneously.
Investigation Confirms Leak Through Portal And WhatsApp
The investigation report revealed that external question paper setter Ashish Kumar Gupta had shared the questions with students through the internal student portal and WhatsApp before the exam. The committee termed this a serious violation of the confidentiality and rules governing the examination system. During the probe, it also emerged that the Electromagnetic Field Theory paper prepared by the same teacher had leaked as well, following which the university decided to cancel both previously conducted exams.
Re-Exams Scheduled For August
According to university Exam Controller Dr. V.K. Patel, both cancelled exams will be conducted again in the third week of August. Details regarding exam dates and centres will be released separately, and affected students are being informed through their respective colleges.
Teacher Barred For Seven Years, College Warned
The university has barred the teacher from all exam-related responsibilities for the next seven years over the breach of exam confidentiality. Shivalik College of Engineering has also been issued a warning to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future.
The episode has raised questions over the security of the examination system and question papers, though UTU has taken corrective action following its investigation to maintain the credibility of its examinations.
