Punjab Lok Sabha Election 2024 LIVE: Polling Concludes Across 13 Lok Sabha Seats, Voter Turnout Recorded At 55.20%

The voting for the seventh and last phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024 in Punjab concludes today. 

Punjab recorded a voter turnout of 55.20 per cent so far with Bathinda recording the highest turnout at 59.25 per cent. The lowest voter turnout has been recorded in Amritsar.

Punjab: 46.38%

West Bengal: 58.46%

Bihar: 42.95%

Chandigarh: 52.61% 

Himachal Pradesh: 58.41% 

Jharkhand: 60.41%

Odisha: 49.77%

Uttar Pradesh: 46.83%

As polling across 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab is underway, late singer Sidhu Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh says, "I have voted to remove BJP from power...I have cast my vote in support of the INDIA alliance...I campaigned in favour of the INDIA alliance...Rest, the voters of the nation will decide whom to bring into power.”

As polling across 13 Lok Sabha seats is underway, 40.14 per cent voter turnout has bee recorded so far.

West Bengal: 45.07%

Chandigarh: 40.14% 

Himachal Pradesh: 48.63% 

Jharkhand: 46.80%

Odisha: 37.64%

Uttar Pradesh: 39.31%

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana cast his vote at a polling booth in Chandigarh. “He says, "I came back to my city to cast my vote and exercise my right...Mumbai recorded a very low voter turnout this time but we should cast our vote...We don't have a right to complain if we don't vote,” Khurrana said.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia along with his wife cast their vote at a polling booth in Majithia village under the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency.

Rose water was being served at a polling booth in Ludhiana due to heatwave. Cold water in earthen pots and saplings was also arranged for the voters at a green polling booth in Firozpur, as reported by the Indian Express.

BJP leader Manpreet Singh Badal says, "The political, social and economic situations in the state are such that people are laughing at us. If someone can bring Punjab on the right track, it's PM Modi and Amit Shah... The industries that are there in Gujarat are our homegrown model, if we can replicate that here in Punjab, it will be good for us."

After casting her vote, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and candidate from Bathinda, Harsimrat Kaur Badal says, "Today is the last phase, it is a very important phase. I request all countrymen, especially the people of Punjab to vote based on performance. Vote for those who have delivered fulfilled their promises.”

The seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha Election 2024 recorded a voter turnout of 26.3 per cent till 11 AM. Meanwhile, Punjab witnessed 23.91 per cent voter turnout. Here's a look at the state-wise voter turnout:

Bihar: 24.25%

Chandigarh: 25.03% 

Himachal Pradesh: 31.92% 

Jharkhand: 29.55%

Odisha: 22.64%

Uttar Pradesh: 28.02%

West Bengal: 28.10%

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal casts her vote at a polling booth in Badal village under the Firozpur Lok Sabha constituency. The party has fielded Nardev Singh Bobby Mann from this seat. BJP has fielded Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Congress has fielded Sher Singh Ghubaya and AAP has fielded Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar.

As polling across 13 seats in Punjab is underway, Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa casts his vote in Gurdaspur.

The Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency emerges as a focal point as the BJP has decided to replace the incumbent MP Kirron Kher with Sanjay Tandon, who served as a Municipal Councillor in Punjab for 14 years and also won six assembly elections in Punjab. While the Congress has fielded Manish Tewari, who is aiming to stop the BJP from registering a hattrick on the seat. Manish Tewari, a sitting MP from Punjab's Anandpur Sahib, has been declared the joint INDIA bloc candidate for Chandigarh.

As polling across 13 seats is underway in Punjab, Congress candidate from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa casts his vote. The constituency is witnessing a triangular contest between Congress' Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, BJP's Dinesh Singh and AAP's Amansher Singh.

After casting his vote, Former Indian cricketer and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh says, "I expect that people come in large numbers to vote and I want maximum polling in Jalandhar. It is our duty and we should bring the government that we want, a government that can work for the people. I am not a VIP at all, the VIP culture should end. If one can stand in a queue for a langar, then one can stand here too."

Amid ongoing polling across 57 seats in the country including 13 seats in Punjab, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeals to voters to cast their votes. PM Modi tweets,  "Today is the final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. As 57 seats across 8 states and UTs go to the polls, calling upon the voters to turnout in large numbers and vote. I hope young and women voters exercise their franchise in record numbers. Together, let’s make our democracy more vibrant and participative."

Today marks the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha Election 2024.  Voting across 13 key constituencies of the state began at 7 am today.
