Aamir Khan has had a diverse career over the past thirty years, working as an actor, director, producer, and talk show host. He last featured opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in the film Laal Singh Chaddha, which was the official Hindi adaptation of the iconic movie Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks. The film although received good reviews from international media, it tanked at the domestic box office.

Aamir Khan is renowned for his meticulous approach to filmmaking, taking an extended amount of time to carefully select the projects he participates in. However, in this process of choosing his roles, he has turned down some significant opportunities in the past that have gone on to shape the careers of other actors, demonstrating the adage "One man's loss is another man's gain."

While this might not be entirely accurate for Aamir Khan, it certainly holds true for Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, who have benefited from the movies that Aamir turned down. As the Dangal actor is celebrating his 58th birthday today, let's take a look at the blockbuster films that he has rejected in the past.

Darr:

Have you ever wondered what it would have been like if Aamir Khan had portrayed the role of the psychotic and obsessive lover instead of Shah Rukh Khan in the popular dialogue "Tum Aesa Mat Karo Ki..Ki..Ki..Kiran"? It is quite challenging to imagine anyone else portraying the iconic character other than SRK, as it is still considered one of his best performances to date.

According to reports, Ajay Devgn was the first choice for this role, but when he didn't respond to the filmmaker, the role was offered to Aamir Khan. However, when Aamir decided not to take on the role, it was given to Shah Rukh. As expected, Shah Rukh delivered a standout performance, whether as a hero or villain, in this film.

Hum Aapke Hai Koun:

When it comes to listing iconic films that established Salman Khan as an actor, one cannot exclude Hum Aapke Hai Koun. During its release, this film featuring Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit amassed Rs 69.75 crores.

With inflation-adjusted to the present day, it garnered an impressive Rs 354.7 crore, according to Hindustan Times. Director Sooraj Barjatya had initially approached Aamir for the role, but he did not find the script attractive. This film played a significant role in propelling Salman Khan's career in the industry.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge:

This movie revolutionised the idea of romantic films in Bollywood. However, not many know that Aamir was first offered the role of Raj by Aditya Chopra but he turned it down. The movie went on to become Shah Rukh Khan's most beloved film of all time. The same year, Aamir Khan's Rangeela also hit theatres. Although both movies did well and both Khans were praised for their roles, the SRK and Kajol starrer went on to make history.

Mohabbatein:

Similar to DDLJ, Aditya Chopra presented another successful romantic story to Aamir Khan, but he declined the offer. As it is widely known, Shah Rukh Khan was eventually cast as Raj, and the movie went on to be a huge box-office success.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan:

There was a phase in Salman Khan's career, when his movies were not doing well at the box office. However, in 2015, he made a comeback with a touching performance in Bajrangi Bhaijaan that was appreciated not only by his fans but also by critics (which is a rare occurrence for Salman Khan).

According to reports, Kabir Khan had initially approached Aamir Khan for the film but Aamir had certain requirements that the director didn't agree with. Eventually, the role went to Salman Khan and the film went on to become a huge success.
