Akshay Kumar is one of the most popular actors in Indian cinema and is well known for the massive box-office success of his career. In recent years, his movies have not been working well in theatres and the failure of his ambitious periodic film 'Samrat Prithviraj' came out as a big shock for his fans. Director Chandraprakash Dwivedi broke his silence on the box office failure of 'Samrat Prithviraj' for the first time. He also revealed that Akshay Kumar teared up after the movie flopped.
While speaking to Mukesh Khanna on his YouTube channel, Chandraprakash Dwivedi said, "They (the audience) were objecting to how Akshay was looking in the film. One of the objections was about how the actress (Manushi Chillar) was so much younger and Akshay, who was 55 then, was playing the role of a 26-year-old king. Then there was a question about his moustache as to why did he not have a real moustache. They even said that the frame of his body was nothing like Prithviraj's. Today, honestly, I would like to confess that most of these objections were right.”
He added that Akshay and he learnt the lesson that 'no one should tamper with history'. The filmmaker revealed that Akshay had 'tears in his eyes' after 'Samrat Prithviraj' flopped at the box office but both of them still have a good relationship.
“Akshay is a successful actor and he has that place in my life where I can criticise him to his face. I did not just criticise him in words, I also wrote to him about it on email, and even after that, there was no tension in our relationship,” he further said.
On the work front, Akshay Kumar will be seen in 'Welcome To The Jungle'. The movie also stars Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Mika Singh, Rahul Dev, Mukesh Tiwari, Sharib Hashmi, Inaamulhaq, Zakir Hussain, Yashpal Sharma, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani and Vrihi Kodvara. 'Welcome To The Jungle' will hit the theatres on December 20, 2024.
Akshay was last seen in 'Mission Raniganj' opposite Parineeti Chopra. The movie did not work well at the box office.
He will also star in the action movie 'Bade Miya Chote Miyan' with Tiger Shroff and Sonakshi Sinha. The movie will release on Eid 2024.
