Dhoomam On OTT: On June 23, Malayalam film 'Dhoomam' marked the directorial debut of Kannada filmmaker Pawan Kumar. Produced by Hombale Films and featuring Fahadh Faasil and Aparna Balamurali in the lead roles, 'Dhoomam' generated significant anticipation due to the reputation and expectations associated with all the artists involved. Pawan had nurtured the idea for this film for more than 10 years but had struggled to convince actors and producers in the Kannada industry. It was only when Fahadh expressed interest in the script that the film finally came to fruition.

'Dhoomam', which released in both Malayalam and Kannada on June 23, failed to make an impact at the box office, receiving a lukewarm response from Mollywood viewers. However, Kannada audiences were more forgiving as the dubbed version showed significant improvement in terms of quality compared to the trailer, and the Kannada dialogues were considered superior to the original Malayalam version. It's worth noting that Dhoomam was initially made in Kannada and later translated into Malayalam.

Prior to its theatrical release, there were reports of 'Dhoomam' securing a digital rights deal, following the trend set by other Hombale Films productions. It was rumoured that the film had been acquired by Amazon Prime Video, although no official confirmation has been made. Considering the film's underwhelming performance at the box office, there is speculation that it will be released on the streaming platform within the 30-day window. The tentative date being discussed for Dhoomam's OTT premiere is July 21.

About Dhoomam:

'Dhoomam', featuring Vineeth, Roshan Mathew, and Achyuth Kumar, is a revenge thriller that delves into the dark side of the tobacco industry, highlighting the dangers of addiction and passive smoking. Initially, Hombale Films had announced that the Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi versions of the film would release a week later on June 29. However, due to the disappointing response to the Malayalam version, the plans for the multilingual release have been scrapped. Instead, all five versions of the film will be exclusively available on OTT platforms when it starts streaming.
