'Criticism Was Valid': Anurag Kashyap On Bandar

Speaking with comedian Kunal Kamra on his YouTube channel, Anurag Kashyap stated that he deliberately decided not to promote the movie and that he thought many criticisms against Bandar were 'quite valid'.

The comedian disclosed that Anurag Kashyap had warned him not to watch Bandar. The filmmaker quipped, "When I said don't watch, it’s because I can’t own up… If you noticed, I didn’t give any interviews on the film. Because whatever came out is not my final cut. So, the criticisms that came the movie’s way are quite valid."

Anurag Kashyap added, "It became kind of lopsided. Because I wanted to put out something I could stand up for. As a result, I couldn’t stand up against the criticisms of the movie."

He expressed his relief that some viewers understood his point of view after seeing the audience's reaction to Bandar. "Those who could see my intention, they didn’t need to watch it, because they already know what's being shown. The problem is with those who don’t know what it’s about and they need to watch it to understand the perspective.

The filmmaker stated that the editorial changes altered the movie. "Whatever was there, was made by me. I shot it. But what they have edited out has really affected the outcome."

What Is Bandar Movie About?

The main character of the movie is Samar, whose life drastically changes once he is involved in a false rape accusation. The psychological thriller examines issues of reputation, social condemnation, and inner conflict.
