The first poster of Sourav Ganguly's upcoming biopic movie, Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story, has finally been unveiled, with Rajkummar Rao recreating Ganguly's iconic Lord's balcony celebration. While fans are excited to see the actor step into the former Indian captain's shoes, many may not know that late actor Sushant Singh Rajput had once dreamed of playing Ganguly on screen. Rajkummar Rao's First Look As Sourav Ganguly Out
The makers of Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story recently released the film's first poster, giving fans their first glimpse of Rajkummar Rao as former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. In the poster, the actor recreates Ganguly's unforgettable Lord's balcony celebration, raising excitement for the much-awaited biopic.
Sushant Singh Rajput Was Interested in the Role
According to earlier report, the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput had a deep aspiration to portray Sourav Ganguly in a biopic film. In the aftermath of his death, a report came out claiming that the actor was very passionate about the making of a movie on Sourav Ganguly's life.
Following his portrayal of MS Dhoni in ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story,’ he wished to act the role of another iconic Indian cricketer and wanted to make a movie on Sourav Ganguly's life.
He Was Reportedly Trying To Acquire Film Rights
A source quoted by Pinkvilla had said, "Sushant was trying to acquire the rights to make a film on Sourav Ganguly's life. He was extremely excited about playing him on screen. He admired Dada a lot, and after meeting him, he asked his team to begin discussions about the project."
Reports also suggested that Sushant's team held discussions with Ganguly in 2018. However, the former Indian captain was not ready to approve a biopic on his life at that time.
Ganguly Declined Proposal Then
The source further added, "Ganguly was not very keen on making a biopic then, so he politely declined. Sushant was disappointed but told him that whenever he was ready, he should give him the opportunity. Ganguly smiled and agreed."
Sadly, Sushant Singh Rajput passed away in June 2020 at his Mumbai residence before the project could take shape.

Rajkummar Rao Finally Bags The Role
In later years, reports also linked Ranbir Kapoor to the biopic. However, Sourav Ganguly eventually confirmed that Rajkummar Rao would headline the film. The biopic will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and will chronicle the remarkable journey of one of Indian cricket's greatest captains.
