Farhan Akhtar-Ranveer Singh Don 3 Controversy: Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has finally broken his silence regarding the messy fallout with actor Ranveer Singh over the highly anticipated sequel, Don 3. The project, which was officially announced in August 2023, hit a major roadblock when the Dhurandhar actor suddenly walked out of the film in late 2025. The move reportedly left a Rs 40 crore hole in the production budget, leading to a tense standoff between the star and the director.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Farhan Akhtar reflected on the situation and what he has gained from this challenging chapter. The Don 3 director said, “What I've learned is to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted until you actually have it on film. That’s really what it is.”

Meanwhile, the feud began shortly after the release of Ranveer Singh's film Dhurandhar in December 2025. Farhan and his partner at Excel Entertainment, Ritesh Sidhwani, allegedly escalated the matter to the Producers Guild of India. They claimed that Rs 40 crore had already been sunk into pre-production and that Ranveer had approved the script at every stage.

In response, Ranveer Singh reportedly alleged that Farhan Akhtar had previously sidelined the project during the actor's brief career slump. Recent reports suggested that Ranveer offered to return his Rs 10 crore signing amount and even offered Farhan a stake in his next film, Pralay, to settle the debt.

However, sources at Excel Entertainment have since denied these claims, stating that, “The situation remains unchanged and that talks are still ongoing. According to them, no agreement has been finalised so far.”

Despite the financial and creative hurdles, Farhan Akhtar insists he is not bitter. Reflecting on a career that includes hits like Dil Chahta Hai, he acknowledged that challenges are part and parcel of the business. He said, “I also feel that from the time that I began... till they came on and said yes, ‘let’s make this film’ – from that moment on I've had the most incredible ride. It has just been working with the people I want to work with... You realise that at some point, there will be a period that’s going to be a little bit more challenging. You have had it good, so it’s okay… Just take it in your stride.”

Furthermore, Farhan Akhtar hinted that the project is not dead. He described it as one of the incredible stories he is still keen to tell, though it remains to be seen who will eventually step into the iconic title role.
