Rumours were rife on Wednesday that actor-turned-politician Vijay would be sworn in as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Thursday after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, reportedly took the lead in the polls. Vijay later met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to seek support for forming the government, but the talks reportedly ended without success as TVK was informed that it lacked the required majority.

Unaware of cancellation, TVK supporters who arrived at Nehru Stadium for his swearing-in ceremony, left disappointed. In a video shared by PTI, a fan could be heard saying, "I came here without informing anyone, for this program. I did not know it was cancelled and I am feeling sad. It’s just my shock now that I’m here. I have come here, but I am unable to return."

"From morning till now, I haven’t got any information. Even after you win, will there be no change? I thought it was confirmed that he would come and that there would be no changes. But now I’m shocked and confused," she said.

According to reports, TVK attempted to strengthen its numbers by forming a coalition with the Congress, which helped the alliance touch 112 seats in the 234-member Assembly. Vijay himself reportedly had to give up one of the two seats associated with the alliance arrangement during the negotiations. Despite the coalition efforts, the governor is said to have insisted on the alliance crossing the crucial majority mark of 118 seats before being invited to form the government.

Amid the political uncertainty, several voices from the Tamil film industry also reportedly extended support to Vijay and his party. Industry members and fans alike continued backing the actor-politician, with many expressing confidence in his leadership and political future despite the current roadblock.
