As a lifelong fan of the original 2007 Welcome, I walked into the theatre for Welcome to the Jungle with massive expectations. The promotional material promised a grand return to the nostalgic slapstick comedy we all grew up loving, packaged with a huge ensemble cast.

However, after sitting through the entire runtime, I am left with a mixed bag of feelings. Is it genuinely worth the massive hype? The short answer is: only if you leave your brain completely at home.

Welcome To The Jungle kicks off with a very unique, funny premise. A wealthy businessman tries to avoid taxes by intentionally funding a film that is guaranteed to be a total disaster. He accidentally brings a chaotic group of gangsters, bad directors, and a struggling actor into a deadly jungle trap run by an international smuggling gang.

This setup provides plenty of funny comebacks and meta-references to classic Bollywood comedies, which initially kept a big smile on my face. Akshay Kumar is in top form here.

Akshay Kumar's comic timing feels incredibly sharp, and he looks like he is genuinely having fun playing a double role as both the hero Rajiv and his long-lost Army officer father. The scenes featuring the iconic Johnny Lever and Paresh Rawal are absolute gold mines of nostalgia, proving that their natural wit remains unmatched.

Ahmed Khan also deserves credit for directing the large cast decently, giving actors like Suniel Shetty and Arshad Warsi some highly entertaining action-comedy set pieces where they fight terrorists using movie props.

However, Welcome To The Jungle suffers from being completely bloated. With over a dozen major actors sharing the screen, the narrative quickly becomes too chaotic, loud, and messy.

Instead of the clever situational humour that made the first Welcome an absolute masterpiece, this third instalment relies far too heavily on loud screaming, over-the-top stunts, and brain-rot slapstick gags.

Final Verdict: Is Welcome To The Jungle Worth Your Time?

Welcome to the Jungle is a decent, mindless family entertainer that is worth a one-time watch for its nostalgic cast and loud laughs. However, it completely fails to match the legendary status of the original film.
