Kani Kusruti recently talked about her experience playing a rape survivor in her upcoming movie Assi, stating that while it's hard to fully comprehend such suffering, it's crucial to approach it with honesty. She claimed that she drew inspiration from the common reality that many Indian women experience in order to give Parima's character a real feel. Kani Kusruti said the scars that people have experienced in the past often reappear during court proceedings.

Kani Kusruti stated that it is impossible to understand the agony experienced by a rape survivor while speaking to PTI. "I don't think one can tap into the trauma (of a survivor) exactly. As an actor, we tried to go closest to it, and there can be moments you are probably in it because you are almost believing this has happened to you. But I’m not an actor who would fully go in like that, (because) then it will kind of affect you. I don't tend to do that (sic)."

Kani Kusruti said she does have a sense of assaults and traumas because it's a reality that one frequently faces. "As a woman growing up in this country from childhood to now, do I have a sense of such assaults or traumas? Yes, possibly I do, as my close people have gone through it. So, every now and then, this is one of the things that you are closely associated with even when you don't want it to be that way (sic)," she shared.

Kani Kusruti, 40, said that the movie helped her understand the Indian legal system in such cases and that courtroom hearings often rekindle old traumas. "To get justice, you've to go through it (pain), so there is an absurdity and irony within the system, but that's how you get justice, you cannot forget it. In the film, there's also a line, 'They won't let you forget this' (sic)".

Kani Kusruti stated she relied on Sinha and writer Gaurav Solanki to depict the character's tenacity, allowing her artistic freedom while delivering a complex portrayal of a survivor.
