Taapsee Pannu spoke out about the ongoing case of the NEET applicant who caused a stir with his death in Patna last month. The actor, who will next be seen in the movie Assi, described the scenario as sad and said that accidents like these have been normalised. Her comments coincide with ongoing inquiries into a student's death after she allegedly fell from the fourth floor of a coaching centre close to AIIMS Patna.

Taapsee Pannu emphasised the statistics she used in her movie, saying that the death of the NEET student was only one of the 80 horrifying situations that could have happened that day.

Taapsee Pannu said, "I feel that there must have been 79 other such incidents that day. With some, it happens with extreme brutality. In others, someone from within the home commits the act in an unexpected way and walks away. The point is, on average, 80 such cases are happening in a single day. In fact, the number is likely higher. We say 80 because that is the reported data."

Taapsee Pannu talked about how society normalises crimes against women and emphasised how unsettling these stats are. She claimed that because society seemed to have come to terms with sexual assault as a fact of life, she has seen less and less outrage and protests against it. "So the grief, pain and anger we feel when we hear about one particular case -- we should feel the same when we hear about the others too. When you think about six-month-old babies, six-year-old girls, the problem has now escalated to a point where it has become so common that we have stopped valuing it. It feels as though it has become normal."

Taapsee Pannu, who has been in harsh dramas on crimes against women in the past, such as Thappad (2020) and Pink (2016), noted that what worries her the most is the normalisation of sexual assault. "What angers me even more is that we have normalised it. We have accepted it as something that just happens, that so many cases occur, that it is simply a part of our lives. We have resigned ourselves to it. That, more than anything else, is what makes me the most upset," she said.

NEET Aspirant Death Case

Grave concerns have been raised by the death of a 17-year-old NEET applicant in Patna. On January 6, the student was discovered unconscious in her hostel room after leaving her house in the Jehanabad region to study for the extremely difficult medical entrance exam. She unfortunately died five days after being admitted to a private hospital. What started as a suspected suicide has now become more serious. According to reports, there was an attempt to hide the fact that she had been sexually abused.
