Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith Balakrishnan has been suspended by the Film Employees Federation of Kerala after his arrest in a sexual harassment case. The decision was confirmed by general secretary B Unnikrishnan. The move came as part of the organisation’s standard procedure while an internal investigation is underway, drawing attention to accountability within the film industry.
Suspension Announced By FEFKA
According to the Indian Express report, B Unnikrishnan, general secretary of Film Employees Federation of Kerala, said the decision was taken together by the writers and directors' union. He stated, “The case and allegations are of a serious nature. We have decided to suspend him. The police are investigating the case, and it is under the court’s consideration. Further decisions will be made later.”
He also shared that the complaint was made by a lead actress working on an ongoing film. Unnikrishnan added, “We have taken her complaint seriously. He is our friend and colleague, and we have concerns about his health condition. But these are two different matters.” He also revealed that the actress has not yet approached the Internal Complaints Committee.

Details Of The Case
The complaint was lodged at the Ernakulam Women Police Station against the accused under several non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These sections cover inappropriate physical conduct, sexual harassment, and inappropriate gestures towards a woman.
Allegations And Arrest
As per the complaint, the actress had accused Ranjith of attempting a sexual assault inside a caravan at the shooting location on the 30th of January. Following the allegations, the accused was arrested and later produced before the magistrate. Ranjith has been ordered to undergo judicial custody for 14 days by the court. Currently, the accused is lodged in the Ernakulam Sub Jail.

SIT Formed For Investigation
A Special Investigation Team has been constituted to investigate the case. The leader of the SIT will be the Kochi City Police Commissioner. They will investigate the case and gather evidence to ensure a thorough investigation. They will also take statements from the individuals who were present during the incident.
