Mardaani 3 Box Office Collection Day 1: Rani Mukerji returned to the big screen as fearless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy with the release of Mardaani 3 on Friday. However, despite the popularity of the franchise and a seven-year gap since the last instalment, the film has failed to raise the bar at the box office. Backed by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films, Mardaani 3 marks 30 years of Rani Mukerji in the film industry. The movie is facing strong box office clash with Sunny Deol’s Border 2.
On its opening day, Mardaani 3 earned Rs 3.80 crore net in India, matching the Day 1 numbers of its predecessor, Mardaani 2, released in 2019. The modest opening suggests that the third instalment has not managed to generate the same level of excitement as expected, especially given the strong competition currently dominating cinemas. The opening figures are significantly lower compared to its main box office rival, Border 2, which earned Rs 11 crore on its eighth day alone.
Despite the subdued opening, the film managed an overall occupancy of 18.01% across theatres on Friday. Morning shows began on a slow note with 8.97% occupancy, which gradually improved to 14.78% in afternoon shows and 17.13% during evening shows. Night shows witnessed the strongest response, rising sharply to 31.14%, indicating better footfalls during late-evening screenings.
Box Office History Of The Mardaani Franchise
Mardaani 3 is the third instalment in Rani Mukerji’s successful cop franchise. The first film, Mardaani (2014), directed by Pradeep Sarkar, earned Rs 35.65 crore net in India. The sequel, Mardaani 2 (2019), directed by Gopi Puthran, became the biggest hit in the franchise with a Rs 47.35 crore net domestic collection. It also remains the second-highest earning film of Rani Mukerji’s career.
