Naveen Kaushik is a well-known yet frequently underrated actor who has been in the film industry for at least 16 years. In Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, he portrayed Nitin Rathore, the brutal boss of Ranbir Kapoor. In Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, he also played the endearing trip guide for Ranbir. In addition, Naveen Kaushik has contributed to his consistent and varied body of work by appearing in movies like Bank Chor and Guest in London. Although many users applauded him for his flexibility, some were initially unable to identify him in the Dhurandhar trailer.
Delhi-born actor Naveen Kaushik began performing in Delhi theater at the age of 17 in 1999. According to his IMDb biography, the actor manages Improv Comedy Mumbai (ICM), India's premier improvisational teaching and performance college, in addition to his acting endeavors. He has performed, taught, and represented India at international improv festivals around Europe and North America as a member of India's top improv team.
Speaking exclusively to The Daily Jagran was Naveen, who portrayed Donga in Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar. He reminisced about his time spent on the sets of his 2009 film Rocket Singh. The actor also talked about his lengthy career in Bollywood and the things that have sustained him over the years. Naveen Kaushik also expressed gratitude for his part in the spy thriller Dhurandhar.
Naveen Kaushik recalled, "We spent almost three months rehearsing every inch of the script. We used to do cast readings with all the other characters and then we would do readings with Ranbir Kapoor. So, over three months everyone knew everyone's lines, everyone's scene, what is going to happen, how is it going to happen. They had figured everything out and then when we went to shoot, we just had to be the characters. So, ek toh woh mein ko spoil kiya tha."
Naveen Kaushik, who has worked in the film industry for over 15 years, talked about the lessons he learned on the set. He described acting as a 'game of patience,' saying that after performing for a minute or two, you might have to wait an hour for everything to be put up.
"So, having that patience and that patience that you develop as an actor on set also translates into your life because I did Rocket Singh in 2009. It got released in 2009. I was 27 at that time. A lot of people said and they said, you know, you've done a good job. Doors are going to open, you're going to skyrocket and this is going to happen and that is going to happen. I got work because of Rocket Singh. I got, people recognised me because of Rocket Singh."
Speaking about the drawbacks, Naveen Kaushik emphasized how people frequently fall into traps. He revealed getting Dhurandhar, 16 years after Rocket Singh."I got Dhurandhar. It took me 16 years, it took for something like Dhurandhar to happen in my career. So that, that patience, you know, don't get defeated. So I think that really, what's happening now with Dhurandhar, I really feel blessed and grateful that I've gotten the opportunity to reinvent myself, reintroduce myself to the audience as an actor with the character that I've done."
After Dhurandhar's success, Naveen talked about the love he received from the crowd. Calling it overwhelming, he said, "I think that's something all the actor crave when they move to Bombay and start working in the film industry is that the people recognise you, love you and wanna reach out to you. They consider you one of them."
