Anurag Kashyap addressed the controversy surrounding Diljit Dosanjh's Satluj, which was removed from ZEE5 within 48 hours of its debut in India. The director not only questioned the decision to remove the movie from the OTT platform but also encouraged others to see it, even if it meant downloading the pirated version.

According to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, the movie's ban has only increased interest in it, with an increasing number of individuals eager to see it

"The thing about banning something is that the more you ban something, the more people want to watch it. I was not even planning to watch this film, but now I will have to watch to understand why it got banned," he said.

Later, Anurag Kashyap shared another Instagram Story endorsing Satluj and encouraging people to see the movie, even if it meant using illegal copies. "Plz sab log dekho, pirate karo par dekho."

Based on human rights campaigner Jaswant Singh Khalra, Satluj focuses on the hundreds of unidentified bodies that vanished and were illegally cremated during Punjab's militancy phase in the 1980s and 1990s. 

The human rights activist from Amritsar, Jaswant Singh Khalra, revealed illicit cremations that took place during Punjab's militant years by examining municipal records and cremation registries. Apart from Diljit Dosanjh, the biographical drama stars Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan.

On July 3, Satluj made its debut on ZEE5 following years of delays and certification obstacles. Within two days, the movie was removed from the OTT platform, but the uproar has only heightened public interest in the narrative it portrays and the individuals who inspired it.

"In light of the current developments, Satluj will be unavailable in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every appropriate avenue through due process to bring the film back to our audiences at the earliest opportunity," read the official statement shared by ZEE5.
