Amongst the many voices paying tribute, singer and former Bigg Boss contestant Rahul Vaidya shared a particularly moving recollection of his final interaction with the veteran leader, describing the loss as deeply personal.
Taking to social media, Rahul Vaidya posted a poignant video from an event held on December 6, 2025. The footage captures a lighter, more human side of the senior politician, showing him smiling and immersed in the music. The singer noted that "Ajit Dada" spent nearly two hours requesting his favourite tracks back-to-back, even singing along to the timeless hit O Mere Dil Ke Chain. "I never thought this would be the last time I met him," Vaidya wrote in an emotional Instagram post. "An untimely goodbye that feels unreal... Ajit Dada Pawar, gone too soon, remembered forever. May your soul find peace."

Meanhwile, the tragedy occurred on the morning of Wednesday, 28 January 2026. Ajit Pawar was travelling to Baramati in the Pune district to campaign for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections. His chartered aircraft, a Learjet 45, reportedly encountered difficulties while attempting to land. The plane crash-landed near the threshold of the Baramati airport runway at approximately 8:48 am. Authorities have confirmed that there were no survivors among the five people on board. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) have already launched a formal probe to determine the exact cause of the crash. In honour of his extensive service to the state, the Maharashtra government has declared three days of state mourning.
Ajit Pawar is survived by his wife, Sunetra Pawar, who serves as a Rajya Sabha MP, and their two sons, Jay and Parth. Tributes have also poured in from Bollywood heavyweights, including Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt, who remembered him as a decisive leader and a pillar of Maharashtra politics. His funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 11 am, where he will be laid to rest with full state honours.
