Rajpal Yadav Bail Hearing Highlights: Delhi HC Grants Actor Bail In Rs 9 Cr Cheque Bounce Case

Rajpal's elder brother Sripal Yadav, revealed that there cannot be a bigger relief than this. He told NDTV, “If he could not come, then what would be the meaning of the wedding? Yes, he is the main attraction of the family. In a wedding, all the crowd and everything, the main thing happens because of him. All the preparations were already done, and everything was completed. But suddenly this happened, and he was thinking he would not be able to go. Now he is coming. We are very, very thankful to God. All of you supported us. There is a lot of happiness in the whole family now. About the case and everything, he himself will tell you."

Rajpal Yadav has been granted bail by the Delhi High Court in the 2018 cheque bounce case. The actor, who had been in Tihar Jail since early February after failing to meet payment commitments, received relief on February 16. The court granted bail after he deposited Rs 1.5 crore to the complainant, a key condition for his release. Yadav will remain out of jail until March 18, when the case will be heard again.

The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim relief to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in a cheque bounce case. The court gave his lawyer until 3 pm to submit a demand draft of Rs 1.5 crore in the name of the respondent. The judges made it clear that Yadav will be granted interim bail if the amount is deposited within the given deadline. If the payment is not made by 3 pm, the case will be heard again tomorrow morning. Rajpal Yadav has requested interim bail so he can attend his niece’s wedding on February 19.

Rajpal Yadav is serving a six-month jail sentence in a cheque bounce case linked to a loan taken for his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film, released on November 2, 2012, tells the story of a man who reports his house missing, only to face accusations himself. The cast included Om Puri, Ashutosh Rana and Vijay Raaz.

Filmmaker Priyadarshan has expressed support, saying he tried to secure a higher fee for Yadav in his upcoming film Bhooth Bangla. The two have worked together for over 20 years. Priyadarshan said he was aware of Yadav’s financial struggles and added, "We want to save him," calling the actor "a good soul" who made mistakes.

The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the complainant company and scheduled further hearings. The upcoming court decision will determine whether Rajpal Yadav receives bail or continues to remain in judicial custody at Tihar Jail.

Before surrendering, Yadav reportedly said, "Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta…" expressing distress over his financial situation and saying he had to face the crisis largely on his own.

Several members of the film industry have reportedly offered help. Radha Yadav said, "Many people from the industry have stepped in to support," though she did not reveal specific names or financial details at this stage.

Rajpal Yadav’s wife, Radha Yadav, said that "he is okay" and thanked fans and the film fraternity for their support. She added that the family remains hopeful about his release and is standing united during this difficult time.

Rajpal Yadav requested interim bail to attend his niece’s wedding in Shahjahanpur later this month. His lawyers told the court that some amount has been repaid and sought time for further instructions regarding the remaining payment.

During the recent hearing, Justice Swarnakanta Sharma strongly criticised Yadav. The court observed that he had admitted liability multiple times but failed to honour his payment commitments, leading to his current imprisonment.

In 2018, a magistrate court convicted Rajpal Yadav and sentenced him to six months in prison. The sessions court upheld this decision in 2019. Yadav later challenged the ruling in the Delhi High Court.

Due to interest and non-payment over the years, the original Rs 5 crore reportedly increased to nearly Rs 9 crore. Several cheques issued by the actor bounced, leading to legal action and eventual conviction by a lower court.

The case dates back to 2010 when Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murli Projects Pvt Ltd, a Delhi-based company. He used the money to fund his directorial debut film Ata Pata Laapata, which unfortunately failed at the box office.

Actor Rajpal Yadav has spent 11 nights in Tihar Jail in connection with a cheque bounce case. The Delhi High Court is hearing his bail plea. The case was adjourned earlier, and the court is now expected to decide on his request for bail.
