Rajpal Yadav is presently in Tihar jail in connection with a cheque bounce case, since the court determined that he did not fulfill his obligation to return the amount. 50% of the remaining balance in the actor's financial insolvency case has already been paid, according to the actor's attorney. The Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 actor borrowed almost Rs 5 crore in 2010 to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata.

Rajpal Yadav's lawyer, Bhaskar Upadhyay addressed the reporters outside the court following the hearing to provide some background information on the case.

According to the lawyer, of the Rs 5 crore he borrowed for the movie, the actor has already paid Rs 2.5 crore. In such circumstances, Bhaskar emphasised, jail should not be based solely on undertakings.

Rajpal Yadav's lawyer said in Hindi, "No one should be imprisoned solely on the basis of an undertaking. We told the court that if this is purely a financial matter, we would meet him in jail and take instructions. Today we tried to speak to him in jail, but that wasn’t possible. We will personally meet him to understand the court’s stand regarding the earlier undertaking. If we pay the money, then the matter won’t be argued on merit and it will be treated as a settlement."

How Much Amount Does Rajpal Yadav Have To Pay?

The lawyer further shared, "The original Rs 5 crore became Rs 11 crore. So far, we have paid Rs 2.5 crore in this case. Around Rs 1 crore had been deposited with the registry earlier, and we had also brought a cheque of Rs 25 lakh today. Whatever assistance we are receiving, we are ready to deposit it with the court. There is no major issue on that front. The only question now is what the court decides on Monday."

Rajpal Yadav turned himself in at Tihar Jail on February 5 after the Delhi High Court refused to give him additional time in cases involving long-pending check bounces. The actor, who starred in movies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Waqt, Phir Hera Pheri, Partner, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Hungama, and Chup Chup Ke, is about Rs 9 crore in debt as a result of the charges.
