The Delhi High Court on Friday upheld the conviction of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in the cheque bounce case. The court sentenced him to three months of imprisonment.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma also directed Yadav to pay more than Rs 1 crore to the complainant in each of the seven complaints. The judge clarified that the actor has already paid around Rs 2 crore, which shall be adjusted.
It also granted two months' time to Yadav to approach the appellate court against the decision. A detailed copy of the judgement is awaited.

For the unversed, the court was hearing revision petitions filed by actor Rajpal Yadav and his wife, who challenged a 2019 sessions court order that upheld their conviction in cheque bounce cases. The sessions court had affirmed the magistrate's April 2018 verdict, which sentenced Yadav to six months in prison.
In June 2024, the High Court temporarily suspended Yadav's conviction, directing him to make "sincere and genuine efforts" to reach an amicable settlement with the complainant.
Yadav's counsel argued that the cheque-related dispute stemmed from a genuine financial transaction used to fund a film production. However, the movie failed at the box office, causing significant financial losses.
On February 2, the court directed Yadav to surrender by February 4, noting that he had repeatedly failed to honour his commitments to repay the complainant.
Later, on February 16, the court suspended his sentence and allowed his release from jail after he deposited Rs 1.5 crore into the complainant's bank account.
