Swara Bhasker opened up about an unsettling experience she faced shortly after the success of Tanu Weds Manu (2011). Speaking on Rise and Fall Season 2, the actor recalled the director insisted on doing a romantic scene together. Later, he came to her room late at night, drunk and asked her for a hug.

Swara Bhasker recalled the incident while speaking to actor Priyanka Chahar Chaudhary and politician Tej Pratap Yadav. She said she was shooting her 'big lead film', which required 56 days of shooting.

Swara Bhasker Details Harassment Incident 

"This was just after Tanu Weds Manu, my big lead film. It was a film that I was the heroine of, and we had to shoot for 56 days. First, he told me that directors must love their actors. Then he started texting me poetry about my looks. I was polite about it."

The situation became more uncomfortable when they had to rehearse a romantic scene for the film. "I said, 'Who all are there for the rehearsal?' He said, 'You and me, we'll discuss.' I said, 'No. You called the actor, you called the camera person. If it is a rehearsal, everyone should do it. Why should we do it alone?'"

The actor, known for films such as Raanjhanaa and Veere Di Wedding, then recalled reaching the guest house where she was staying. She found the director and cinematographer drinking together.

Swara said she was in her early twenties at the time. She questioned why she was expected to rehearse or do a reading between two men who had been drinking. "I finished everything and I left. I just ran from there somehow."

However, Swara said the incident did not end there. The director later came to her room and started knocking on the door. She said she was scared that he might break it down.

When she finally opened the door, Swara said the filmmaker was visibly drunk. He then asked her, "Can I get a hug?"

"I was like, 'No. You cannot get a hug. Please, hug me? What happened? You just want to hug me? I said, 'No, no, I can't do it. Sir, please go. I am scared,'" she recalled.

Swara also spoke about the power difference between them. She pointed out that he was the director of the film and she was a young actor working on it.

Her account also touched on the vulnerability young actors can face on film sets. Senior professionals often have considerable influence over actors at the start of their careers.
