Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, were arrested on December 7 in connection with an alleged Rs 30 crore fraud case. The complaint was filed by Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of the Indira Group of Companies. According to news agency PTI, “Murdia, owner of Indira IVF Hospital, wanted to make a biopic on his late wife. He has alleged that he was promised earnings of ₹200 crore. But nothing materialised, after which Murdia approached Bhopalpura police station in Udaipur, where an FIR was registered for cheating and other offences.” The FIR was filed on November 17, accusing Bhatt, his wife and six others of cheating and financial fraud. Police officials have claimed that fake documents, bills and vendors were used during the alleged scam.
Vikram Bhatt Fraud Case: Court Update And Judicial Custody
After their arrest in Mumbai, Vikram Bhatt and his wife were taken to Udaipur. Two days later, they were sent to police custody for seven days. The couple later applied for interim bail on medical grounds, which was rejected by the court. Speaking to ANI, Advocate Manzoor Hussain said the bail plea was denied. DSP Suryaveer Singh later stated, “The court has ordered to keep them in judicial custody. They will now be sent to the Central Jail in Udaipur.”
Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt’s last release, Tumko Meri Kasam, was reportedly inspired by the life of Dr Ajay Murdia and his wife and focused on IVF-related themes. Months after the film’s release, Murdia alleged that more than Rs 30 crore was siphoned off under false promises of film production and profits.
