Ranga Billa Case: The trailer for Prime Video's next investigative crime thriller, Raakh, starring Ali Fazal, Sonali Bendre, and Aamir Bashir, was released on Monday. It will stream on Prime Video from June 12. The Ranga-Billa case, which shook India in 1978 with the kidnapping and murder of siblings Geeta and Sanjay Chopra, served as the inspiration for the series. Here's all about the infamous murder case in the 70s:

What Is The Ranga Billa Case About?

Ranga-Billa Case is one of the most horrifying criminal cases in India. It is also known as the Geeta and Sanjay Chopra kidnapping and murder case. On August 26, 1978, Geeta Chopra (16) and her brother Sanjay Chopra (14) left their home in Delhi's Dhaula Kuan to attend a children's programme at All India Radio. However, they never reached the venue.

The siblings were abducted by two criminals - Kuljeet Singh alias Ranga and Jasbir Singh alias Billa, who forced them into a stolen Fiat car. During the kidnapping, Geeta and Sanjay tried hard to resist.

Witnesses later reported seeing the children struggling inside the vehicle. Geeta allegedly pulled the driver's hair, while an injured Sanjay tried to attract attention and seek help. Several people informed the police and even shared details of the car. However, delays and confusion between different police jurisdictions slowed the investigation.

The kidnappers initially planned to demand a ransom. But after learning that the children's father was a naval officer, they dropped the plan. Fearing that the siblings could identify them, they assaulted and killed both children. Their bodies were found near Delhi Ridge two days later, sparking outrage across the country.

The police were able to locate the accused, using forensic evidence, including a fingerprint found at a hospital where Billa had sought medical attention after suffering injuries during the altercation. They arrested Ranga and Billa on September 8, 1978. They were executed in 1982 after being found guilty of the crime and handed the death penalty.
