Sunaina Roshan Profile: Hrithik Roshan’s elder sister Sunaina Roshan has lived a life marked by several personal struggles, health battles and, ultimately, resilience. Sunaina Roshan was born on January 22, 1972, to filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and his wife Pinkie Roshan. She is the elder sibling of Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan. Sunaina completed her schooling at St Teresa’s Convent in Mumbai and later pursued further studies at Institut Villa Pierrefeu in Switzerland, an institute known for teaching international etiquette and protocol.
Sunaina Roshan Personal Life
Sunaina got married to Ashish Soni in 1992. The couple welcomed a daughter, Suranika Soni, before their marriage ended in divorce. Years later, Sunaina married again in 2009 to Mohan Nagar, but that relationship also ended within a few years. After her second divorce, Sunaina reportedly fell in love with journalist Ruhail Amin. Their relationship attracted media attention, with several reports suggesting family opposition. However, Ruhail later dismissed some of these claims and confirmed that their relationship eventually ended.
Sunaina Roshan On Alcohol Addiction
Sunaina Roshan has been candid about her battle with alcohol addiction. Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, she said, “There was a phase when life had no purpose left. I was feeling very lonely.” She explained how casual drinking slowly turned into dependency. She added, “I told my mom and dad that I wanted to get rid of this. Dad took away my credit cards and all my money.” Despite restrictions, she admitted it was still easy to access alcohol in Mumbai. Eventually, Sunaina went to a rehabilitation centre in the United States, where she completed a strict 28-day programme and successfully overcame her addiction.
Meanwhile, Sunaina’s challenges did not end there. In 2003, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis meningitis, a rare and dangerous condition affecting the brain. A few years later, in 2007, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, which was detected at an early stage. Recalling that phase, Sunaina said, “When I came to know about my cancer diagnosis, my entire family including my parents, brother, Sussanne Khan, and others were deeply concerned.” She added that she faced the illness with positivity and even humour.
Sunaina Roshan’s Weight Loss Journey
In 2017, Sunaina stunned many with her dramatic transformation, losing over 50 kilograms in a year. Talking about her lifestyle change, in an interview earlier she said, “I used to eat only junk food earlier. I had never eaten healthy food.” A severe case of jaundice became her turning point. She shared, “Now if I don’t go to the gym, I feel like I’ve missed something.” Today, Sunaina continues to focus on health, self-care and personal growth, standing as a powerful example of resilience and recovery.
