In a nostalgic announcement for all the comedy lovers out there, veteran actor Paresh Rawal recently confirmed the news that Malamaal Weekly 2 is indeed in the works. The much-loved comedy film about a village is all set for a sequel almost two decades after the original film’s release in 2006. Although an official announcement is still pending from the team, the confirmation itself is creating a lot of buzz.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Paresh Rawal has admitted, “Yes, it is true. I am doing the film.” This has more or less confirmed the rumours about the sequeltof the movie Malamaal Weekly 2.

The original movie, under the direction of Priyadarshan, was a hit because of the simple village atmosphere, the funny characters, and the confusing plot of the movie. The fans are eager to know the cast that will be part of the movie, as well as the new plot that will be added.

It is also said that Rajpal Yadav and Riteish Deshmukh are also being considered for the movie, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

A Look Back at the 2006 Hit

Malamaal Weekly is a film released in March 2006. The film had Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh, and Rajpal Yadav in key roles. The film is about a small village where only one person could read and write. This person comes to know about a person who had won a lottery worth Rs. 1 Crore.

But there is a twist in this film, too. The person who had won the lottery suddenly dies. Then comes a series of events as people try to hide this news from the lottery officer and also trick the greedy village head into getting the prize money.

This film also had Om Puri, Reema Sen, Shakti Kapoor, Sudha Chandran, Asrani, and Rasika Joshi.

The 2012 Reboot Connection

Interestingly, Priyadarshan has also directed Kamal’s movie Kamal Dhamaal Malamaal in 2012, which was assumed to be the remake of Malamaal Weekly. The movie also stars Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Om Puri.

Paresh Rawal’s Other Projects

Apart from Malamaal Weekly 2, Paresh Rawal is also part of Bhagam Bhag 2, which is expected to release in 2026. In this sequel, Manoj Bajpayee will reportedly replace Govinda in the new instalment
