Aranmanai: Plot

In Northeast India, a priest and his daughter are on a boat during a festival when tragedy strikes: the daughter is fatally injured, and her blood spills into the river, releasing the shapeshifting demon Baak. The priest traps Baak's soul, forcing it to assume his daughter's form permanently to spare his wife's grief. Years later, in a village, Selvi's husband dies mysteriously, followed by Selvi's apparent suicide, leaving her children in the care of her brother Saravanan. Strange occurrences ensue, leading Saravanan to suspect foul play in Selvi's death.

Investigating with the help of Maya, a doctor, Saravanan uncovers a sinister connection involving a swami and supernatural forces targeting those with shared characteristics. As the mystery deepens, they realize Baak's plan to regain power by sacrificing specific individuals. With Selvi's spirit protecting her children, Saravanan confronts Baak in a final showdown during a temple festival, culminating in Baak's defeat by divine intervention. The village finds peace, and Saravanan pledges to honour Maya's work by converting the palace into a hospital.
